The joy of the ordinary: why small things make a big difference

22/07/25

Everything we do is delivered with care and respect because we understand your home is a place that truly matters. With this in mind, our next collection of blogs will focus on how you can get things just right with your new home; right from the top of the list like picking a location down to the little details like choosing cushions. There might be a big difference, but both matter when it comes to making a home your own.

This week we are focusing on all the small details that make a big difference. At Vivly, we believe respect for the customer means imagining what life will actually feel like after the keys are handed over and the furniture’s in place. It’s in those quiet, everyday moments we can really make a difference. That’s why we care about the small things. The simple details that reduce friction and make life feel just that bit easier, calmer or more joyful. Here are just a few of them.

1. Classic building materials like stone

Stone has a kind of timelessness to it. From the outside, it sits beautifully within the landscape, particularly in areas where traditional materials reflect the heritage and natural surroundings.

But it’s not just about fitting in. It’s about creating something that will still look good decades from now. But, there’s also an emotional side to it. That moment when you pull up outside and feel a little lift. That’s curb appeal. And it matters more than people realise. It’s the feeling of being glad to be home, of stepping into a place that feels solid, welcoming and distinctly yours. A well-built, well-finished exterior isn’t just a nice-to-have. It sets the tone for coming home.

2. Space for muddy boots

We love the outdoors as much as anyone. But we also know the countryside walks, the woodland trails and a spontaneous trip to the park means muddy boots and dripping coats or a dog that’s found every puddle between here and the hilltop. Without the right space, those little adventures become a large-scale clean-up operation.

That’s why we work utility spaces into our homes wherever we can. Somewhere to leave the boots, hang the wet things, or towel off the dog. It’s not glamorous, but it’s incredibly useful. And it turns a potential annoyance into a smooth transition from outdoors to indoors. It’s our way of saying, go and enjoy the fresh air, we’ve got the rest covered.

3. Storage space

Let’s be honest. Most people aren’t just storing spare towels and last year’s flip-flops. Real life means step-ladders, ironing boards, golf clubs and the roller-skates that were a birthday hit for about five minutes. These things need a home too.

That’s why our storage solutions are designed with real life in mind. It’s not just about quantity, but usability. Easy access, sensible locations, and clever built-in options that keep things tidy without burying them in places you’ll never reach. Because “out of sight” shouldn’t mean “impossible to find.”

4. Plenty of plugs

We live in the age of charging. Whether your charging phone, your smartwatch or your robot-hoover, you'll always want to find a socket in a convenient location. We've made sure you won't have cables trailing across the kitchen. At Vivly, we think about how spaces are used, and that includes power.

We place sockets where they make sense next to the sofa, not behind it. On both sides of the bed. In places you’ll actually want to use your devices. It’s a small thing, but avoiding trailing cables can genuinely reduce stress. It’s one less niggle in the day, and we believe that counts.

5. Increased insulation

Insulation isn’t exciting. It doesn’t sparkle. It doesn’t get posted on social media. But it’s one of the most quietly important things in any home. Good insulation means your house stays cool when it’s hot, warm when it’s cold, and efficient all year round.

It also affects how you feel in the space. No draughts by the windows. No wondering if you need to put the heating on in early September. Just a steady, comfortable temperature that makes the house feel calm and reliable. It's a comfort you don’t have to think about and that’s the best kind.

Built for real life

None of these features are flashy. They won’t be the first thing people notice. But you will feel them, day after day, in ways that make your routines smoother and your home a little more enjoyable.

Because that’s what respect for the customer really means. Not just delivering what looks good on Instagram (although we do), but thinking about what life’s actually like, muddy boots, tangled chargers and all.
